Ashley Hans Scheirl *1956 in Salzburg, lebt in Wien. Studium an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien (Diplom 1980). Zwischen 1979 und 1998 entstanden über 50 Super8 Kurzfilme und zwei Langfilme. 1981–82 Aufenthalt in New York. Ab 1987 lebte Scheirl 16 Jahre in London. 2003 M.A. Abschluss am Central St Martins College of Art & Design. 2006-2022 Professur für Kontextuelle Malerei an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien. Seit 2022 ebendort Senior Professor_in. 2022 Venedig Biennale mit Jakob Lena Knebl. 2006 Österreichisches Staatsstipendium für Bildende Kunst, 2012 Kunstpreis der Stadt Wien, 2019 Österreichischer Preis für Bildende Kunst des Bundeskanzleramts. Zusammen mit Jakob Lena Knebl: 2025 Klocker Kunstpreis, 2026 Oskar Kokoschka Preis.

Ashley Hans Scheirl was born in Salzburg in 1956 and lives in Vienna. Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (graduating in 1980). Between 1979 and 1998, Scheirl made over 50 Super 8 short films and two feature films. In 1981–82, they lived in New York, from 1987 until 2005 in London. In 2003, Scheirl completed an MA at Central St Martins College of Art & Design. From 2006 to 2022 professor for Contextual Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Since 2022 Scheirl works there as Senior Professor. In 2022 participation in the Venice Biennale with Jakob Lena Knebl. 2006 Austrian State Scholarship for Fine Arts, 2012 Art Prize of the City of Vienna, 2019 Austrian Prize for Fine Arts of the Federal Chancellery. Together with Jakob Lena Knebl: 2025 Klocker Art Prize, 2026  Oskar Kokoschka Prize.
